The incident took place in Danbury around 12:10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 27 on High Ridge Road.
According to Det. Capt. Mark Williams of the Danbury Police, an officer on patrol heard a verbal altercation in the area of High Ridge Road and Scuppo Road.
Upon investigating the disturbance, the officer found a man standing over a woman who was lying on High Ridge Road.
When the officer got out of his vehicle to render assistance, the man turned toward the officer and proceeded to stab himself in the chest with a large knife, Williams said.
After doing so, the man fell to the ground. At that time, the officer noticed that the woman had been stabbed several times, apparently by the man, Williams added.
Police officers and EMS personnel treated both parties at the scene and then transported them to Danbury Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
"At present, our investigation has determined that the deceased individuals were in a domestic relationship and that the male stabbed the female before turning the knife on himself," Williams said.
Neither the man nor the woman has been identified by police.
The investigation is ongoing.
